Any runner or personal trainer will tell you that if you stop for too long during a Marathon/ workout that your body will get cold and that you'll have much difficulty starting up again or even finishing at all.
The same is true with your Run towards that place in life where there is total and complete fulfillment: If you STOP...you run the Risk of:
1. Others Passing you up
2. Getting Too Comfortable to where your Comfort overrides your desire to finish
3. Letting the people on the sidelines applaud your "attempt" at Greatness
4. Regret filling your heart because you knew that you possessed the capacity to finish
The risk is far greater than the temporary discomfort you feel on the road to destiny. A Mentor of mine always says "Momentum is difficult to get, but VERY EASY to lose". And this is what you want to protect...Your MOMENTUM...
Without going into a physics lesson: Momentum is simply the product of mass times velocity. This means that the greater the mass of an object/action and the higher the speed indicates the MAGNITUDE of the IMPACT! This is why that marathoner, at the 22 mile mark, grabs the water from the sidelines, throws water in their face without breaking stride and keeps running, because they know that the AMOUNT of training they've put in and the distance they've ran so far, is not worth losing even though their body is racking with pain!
Momentum is VERY precious and can determine the level of success you experience. So in this short blog I want to encourage you to Keep Running through the discomfort, through the pain, through the problems, through the deadlines, Through the boss acting crazy, through the loneliness, through the anguish and even THROUGH SUCCESS...because at The FINISH Line..There is GREATER Reward, Recognition, and Promotion!
The Choice is YOURS...Are you Gonna Keep Running...or QUIT...
Love you ALL!
Keep Running!
Great post Torrian!
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of Zig Ziglar's talk about "priming the pump" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DdHAMjA1lMw .
As you know, starting is the hardest part of doing anything; quitting is a close second. Like a train, it takes the most energy to get moving, so if you stop then we have to expend all that energy, to start all over again. Long as we stay going forward, we can use big "MO" to keep us going. I say this, sitting at 312lbs and although I have lost 40lbs, it took only a few months to do it and about 1 1/2 years hovering between 302 to 316. I keep quitting right before overcoming the plateau that I hit 3-4 times, right at 302. Three weeks ago,I started again. The difference is now I have several friends losing weight with me to give me some competition and my men's small group, is holding me accountable.
I'm looking forward to busting that 300 by the end of this August, YEAR 2011! ha-ha.
